Bonnie Schneider
In the wake of graduating from a Bachelor of Music program (Boston University 1963) However, following that I was experiencing the liberal arts in my teaching career (Brown University 1971-75) I'm an advocate for education that integrates studying the arts and studies of different subjects. This shouldn't come as a surprise from an ethnomusicologist, who earned acquired an MA in 1967, and also a Ph.D. in the field of ethnomusicology from UCLA. My ethnomusicology degree, which I started in 1975 at UC Berkeley in 1975-1976, is conveniently located in the music department at a College of Letters and Science. I enjoy pursuing multiple interests as well as seeing the larger picture. Students from both undergraduate and graduate levels (for who I've written 3 textbooks - Music in India, The Classical Traditions of India, Thinking Musically: Music in Japan - Experimenting Music and expressing Cultural Expression) are enthused by my teaching. It is my case that I'm primarily a professor as well as periods during which I perform administrative duties (such as being Chair of Department of Music, 1983-1988, Dean of Undergraduate Advising from 1992 to 1998, as well as the Chair of Deans for the College of Letters and Science, 1994-1998).
